Just A Rock

While in Ireland, some things were old. Some things were new. Some things looked like ruins! Some ruins looked like rocks...

Offended

Since it's the Thanksgiving weekend, I won't be posting daily comics. I figured I would post Thursday and Friday's comics today, and resume again on Monday.

A Better Option

Nobody actually said this to me, but you get the idea.

Auf Wiedersehen

"...I have decided that it is time to move on and I have accepted a position elsewhere. This was not an easy decision and took a lot of consideration. However, I am confident that my new role will help me to move towards some of my goals I have for my career. "

"Please be assured that I will do all I can to assist in the smooth transfer of my responsibilities before leaving..."

Viva San Clemente

Feast of San Clemente (Higantes Festival) (Angono, Rizal)
This is the festival in honor of San Clemente, the patron saint of the fishermen. On the actual feast day, the image of San Clemente is carried on a barge on the lake with a fluvial procession participated in by most of the residents of the town.

Little children of every barangay (neigborhood) called "parehadoras" are dressed in local costumes, wooden shoes, and carry boat paddles. Then the townfolk and the "higantes" (giant wooden figures made from papier mache and bamboo) accompany the image back to the church through a joyful parade with a brass band and "parehadoras."

I was in Virginia Beach this weekend to take part in the celebration--where several families from Angono, including my family, continue to celebrate the 'Feast of San Clemente.' I created the heads of two of the "higantes" over a decade ago and they still are holding up. We had such a blast with a small indoor parade; plenty of filipino food; line dancing; and games for young and old. We have been so busy that we haven't been to the 'Fiesta' for several years. I am glad we were able to attend this year; eventhough, everyone kept asking my wife and I when we were having children.

Angono is known for its giants and its painters... fitting since I am 6'3" (tall for a filipino) and an artist.

Transparency

So this comments on the state of how information is being passed down and division within my department. Who are the 'transformers' and who are robots in disguise?

Five Minute Conversation

Ok, so this happened a couple of days ago. No faces! No names!

A short five minute conversation would've solved this problem. Instead, I found myself wasting my time responding to multiple e-mails, listening to the designers vent, and nobody wanting to do anything other than cover their own asses.

People kept coming to me with problems and no one had any solutions. It was just one of those days I can look back and laugh! We can IM, e-mail and talk on the phone or face to face, yet some folks will do their best to use all of these instruments and still can't properly communicate!

Forgot The Keys

This conversation actually happened. We almost left without the keys. The sad part was that we had to think about whether it was worth it to spend the extra minute to unlock the door to the house, reach in, grab the keys, and lock up again. It was such a trek from car to house--what a time waster.

Putting Out Fires

Being the Art Director, there are always little fires that need to be put out daily. Funny because I was a volunteer firefighter when I lived in Virginia. I miss volunteering immensely! Nothing like being greeted to a fully involved structure and battling fire with a hoseline streaming out thousands of gallons of water. There are still plenty of fires that need to be put out daily.

Speeding Ticket

During the drive back from visiting family in Pennsylvannia this weekend, I had time to contemplate my very first speeding ticket. Seeing a PA State Trooper sitting with his radar gun triggered my memory.

At the same time, I remembered an anecdote from my previous job told to us at a company meeting. It made me giggle... only in hindsight can I laugh...

Chopping Block

Today, a close friend of mine was telling me that folks where he worked were worried about losing their jobs today--there was a big board meeting happening. I certainly can sympathize! Been there!

I figured I would humor him...
